The High School Robotics Team of Central Jersey was founded as a non-profit organization in the fall of 2016 by Jeffrey Bunca, George Whalen and Jill Whalen. After volunteering for many years as leaders of a local high school robotics team, the mentors decided to form their own community-based team to participate in FIRST. Becoming a community-based team expanded opportunities beyond those a school-based team could offer, including the ability to recruit students from multiple schools/towns as young as middle school age; to be more flexible in attending events and competitions; and to pursue sponsors in a broader area.
